Mother/Son Camp at Camp Campbell

Every year in the month of March, the YMCA has a Mother/Son camp called Camp Campbell, held in the Santa Cruz Mountains in Boulder Creek. This year, Finn and I went. There were no boys in Max's age going that we knew so he opted out.

When at Camp Campbell, you stay in cabins with bunk beds for a total of 16 people. However, our cabin only had me and Finn, Colleen and her boys Owen and Will and one other mom and son whom we didn't know. It was great to have all the extra space and less people to share restrooms and showers with! You eat your three meals a day in the large log cabin and bring along snacks. While it literally rained (poured mostly...) we had a great time.

There are activities such as swimming in the heated pool, archery, tie dye, craft making, indoor games and more. Finn's favorite thing to do was building forts and jumping over the streams with Owen and Will. They got wet and muddy and they loved it.

The little guy

Finn wanted to see if he could fit all the balls and items from one of the baskets in the garage in the basketball hoop without it falling through....he did. :)

St Martin Auction!

The annual auction event at St Martin's was this weekend! Our group went "Bengal Tiger Spirit" theme. Some pics of the outrageous outfits and make-up...

Fun night for sure...Sunday was a bit fuzzy...

Max's science project...

Max's 6th grade science project is due tomorrow....not a moment too soon! Here is the story..

First, he chose a project having to do with measuring the speed of light or something...I lost interest as soon as I read the header...

Weeks went by with me asking about next steps and deadlines. "Not yet", I was told. "We have until early April sometime".

Friday before last, Max woke up not feeling well. Nauseous and overall bad. Finn went to school and Max went back to bed. Later that morning, Brent called and said "Max isn't sick....I think I got to the bottom of something". Uh-oh...

So, the first part of the science project was due on the Friday Max was "sick". That said, all the other kids had selected their project and actually done the test part. A write up was due. Since Max had chosen something he had no interest in and not even started it, we made him chose something else and that weekend, all material was purchased and the science test began. Max was going to create two home made shampoos and test them against a store bought product in various situations. He wrote a long email to his science teacher, informing her that he was behind the ball, had selected something new and explained to her what it was, how far along he was and if she was okay with him switching things up. The following Monday she spoke to him after class, approved the shampoo project and gave him an extension of the original deadline by a week.

Max had a lot to do and worked daily on soiling neutral yarn with the different shampoo products and then the cleaning process. The coming Friday, he had his write-up and was as far along as the rest of the class. Now, the final project results on presentation board is due tomorrow. That said, we spent the weekend buying the presentation board and colored poster board for framing each sheet of paper and gluing it all together. This project cannot be done soon enough...

Max on The Mets

This is Max's second year on San Jose American Majors team. This year he is on Rocco's team; The Mets. He is having a great time and is doing quite a lot of pitching and catching both.
Some pics from last week's game. I'm sure they lost but they are still having so much fun!
